First things first -- It's Stephen A. Mayotte-- It's not Sam Ayotte I'm the oldest of four children. My parents are gone, so that makes me a patriarch. That's me over there on the right. Actually, if you look closely, I'm there 7 times. I'm married, and we have three children (one of each). You might not know me, but most folks around here seem to know my house. It's my design, and I built it with a little help from my family and friends. ![]() I graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1977. Remember Laughton's Garden Center? I worked there. Back in those days, it was possible to put yourself through school, which is lucky because we were really poor back then. I lived at home and attended The University of Lowell (now called UMass/Lowell) Class of 1982 BSME |

For a dozen years, I owned a
company called Mayotte Mobile Stage Lighting. We did over 100 shows and well over 200 performances. We met some great people, helped make some amazing shows, and had a few laughs. I'm a commercial pilot with an instrument rating. I started flying in 1979, took a break when the kids were really little, and started again when my Dad died. My son and I flew across the country in a Cessna 150M named Enterprise on The Ultimate Cross Country (PDF). I donate my time and my airplane to Angel Flight and have flown 70 missions. Back in 2007, I got a nice community service award for it. I've given 134 children free rides as part of EAA's Young Eagles program. I've owned a camera since I was a kid, but got really serious when photography went digital. Good photography is art and science. It's technology and it's all about good lighting. It's all the things I love and am good at. By definition, a "professional photographer" makes his primary living with his camera. Alas, that's not me. Training as an engineer, years in the air, and years more on the stage have taught me to be creative, and about making sure that failure is never an option. |
